This Is Seoul

I’m feeling a little bit neurotic being here to be honest. I’d always have a high expectation for the place, and really so far it’s all be so great. I haven’t even been here for two days and i’ve already done so much.. this is truly a place that never sleeps, never stops. That said i’m in bed, it’s midday and I am not sure what to do next. The past couple of days i’ve been out drinking, swimming, being interviewed and drinking again. A whirlwind tour to say the least.

In a no-holding-back post, i’ll elaborate on everything to date. After spending nearly 2 hours stuck at the airport since no bus would take me and my bicycle, I dragged the thing back to my current place in Samgakji. It’s hard to describe the area, a bit of city mixed with a bit of tradition I guess. I called a few people I knew here.. it was so nice to hear voices again. Particularly one conversation that started with “yeoboseyo? JAEMSU? WHAT THE FUCK!”~ I forget the little mannerisms my friends have, it’s what I miss most I think. That night I met Dahee and Yura at Namoo bar and we drank.. Maekju, Maekju, Maekju then shots. I should have known better. It is a bit traditional to drink in a one for one attitude (or when someone pours you a drink.. and that they did), but I forget how weak I am compared to the power house of a heavy drinking korean liver.

To skip ahead the following things happened:

1. I threw up on myself.
2. I couldn’t remember where I lived.
3. I fell asleep on Yuras floor.
4. The next morning I couldn’t work out how to get into my apartment, only to realise I was trying to access the room above mine.

Most of those things blend into one. We all have a few new bruises after last night.

To celebrate Yuras birthday we all went to the pools.. its a strange thing there.. I mean, everyone looked as if they had just come off a catwalk. I felt like a child by comparison. Perhaps it was the pool we were at (rooftop pool at Hamilton Hotel), but everyone was so buff.. the girls so pretty.. but also some guys walking around in G-strings..that was just too weird. Too fucking weird. The hangover was not helped by the Drum ‘n Bass from the live DJ.. swimming in korea is maybe one of the biggest cultural differences to date.

That avo was followed by drinks and cake, then crashing back at mine with further Maekju. So i’ll probably be sleeping soon.
I’m pretty happy to be here.

Though I don’t think we’ll be having a drink for a while now.
